Socks for Simon

Simon is a newcomer but he's a motorcyclist too and seems genuinely committed to recovery. So it's always good to lead by example and show some generosity.  They took a bit longer than I had expected (trip to Aust in the middle) but they arrived at his place just earlier this week so he was so happy to receive them.. This is why I make socks... people love them and appreciate the care that comes with them.

..and a pair for Bill...

Bill (Iona's hubby) also rides... he's an "expert rider" loves his knee highs ...I got the information about what he'd want from Iona so he was quite touched by being given a pair of wool socks.

Socks for my motorcycling girlfriend

The motorcycling fraternity know about pure wool socks and Iona was delighted with her bespoke socks.

A number of socks.

Marco died in November and I had not caught up with my finished socks as we had been travelling. Since Marco's death I stopped doing anything... so now I'm catching up on my sock blog. However I have no idea when they were finished or any details... it's all a fog. There were at least one other pair but I didn't photo them. I have started knitting again but I'm keeping them plain and using scraps. My mental power is still not up for complicated patterns.

Dog Sweater

Yes, I know, my blog is about socks... but my friend asked several times that I make her dachshund a sweater made of my scraps. She really likes my multi-coloured yarn socks and thinks her cute daxi should have a sweater.... so here it is! Check out my Ravelry page for info

Thanks for this pattern.

I don't have a daxi to model this sweater but it has a cowl collar with cute cuffs for the front paws.

Here it is on the daxi! She doesn't look that happy eh?

Mistake Rib

These are pair No 19 for 2017.

Finished "on the road" so it was appropriate to photograph them sitting on the pannier.
I have not used this particular yarn before and I like it a lot. It's lovely to work with and feels good too.

I used the last of some hi-vis green for the toes and heels to ensure there would be enough yarn for the whole pair.

See my Ravelry page

Scraps again...

These are pair No 18 for 2017 for me personally.

I might get 20 pairs made before the end of 2017... we'll see.

My friend Sue in Australia always loves my multi-coloured socks and they were finished whilst we were staying with her and they fitted her so as always when they're finished and if a likely recipient is available and they like them then the stars have aligned perfectly ...

Garish Mosaics!

I made up this mosaic pattern so I'm rather pleased with that aspect but they don't have much stretch to them so have limited appeal.

They have become my own socks and they have grown in appeal for me. See my Ravelry page for info.

Sister Socks

These pink and greys were original made for someone else in mind. However they were too tight for her and I know they'd fit my sister....so she is the recipient.

Scrap Socks for Marco.

Marco wears holes in socks so fast...he's always happy to have new colourful socks....

I used lots of leftovers. I usually make narrower stripes with leftovers but was in a hurry to get these bits and pieces of yarn out of the storage box.

Chain Link Mosaic

They're still looking for a new home. See my Ravelry page for details

Another mosaic pair

In the end they ended up with me.... they didn't find a new home and a pair of mine went to holes for the second time.

Scraps for Marco

Pair No 14 for 2017

See my Ravelry page for more info.

Stripey Socks for Di

Another good pair made up of various leftovers.

Scap socks for myself

Unfortunately, the yellow yarn is a local NZ yarn but it is really terrible for socks. Weak and not enough twist and it's very rough. See my Ravelry page

Shelley's Socks

Our new neightbour wears double layer of socks... hopefully these pure wool ones might be good for him. Check out my Ravelry page

Socks for Laura's Mother

Laura and Actor have been cycling (pushbike) around the world and have been many places including the silk route.

We found a place for Laura to stay (with a friend in Wellington)  for a couple of months whilst she wrote more of her travel book.

When Aitor's family came to visit they brought with them a gift basket for me from Laura's mother. When Laura paid us her final visit she and I selected a pair of socks for her mother and Aitor's family took them to Madrid for her before head back to Basque country.

Cool how travelling broadens your experience of the world....
